Feudalism Blog

Feudalism also called Feudal system or feudality which mean's the practice of the feudal system. Feudalism was used by the end of the 18th century. The Feudal society is a military hierarchy.

The hierarchical levels are King/ Monarch, Baron/ Nobles, Knights/ Vassels, and Peasants/ Villeins/ Serfs.

King/ Monarch-

The King or Monarch owned all the land in the country and ruled the whole kingdom. The king had total control over useful things and quality. Everyone needs to be faithful to the King. The King have to swear to a promise so he can be in charge of the land. He protects his kingdom from invasion, gave parts to local lords call Knights/ Vassels.

Baron/ Nobles-

The Baron or Nobles rent land from the king's, which was known as a manor. The Barons/ Nobles were the second wealthiest class. They were also called the Lord Of Manor. T. hey also created their own system of justice, produced their own money and set their own taxes. In return of the land they have been given by the King, the Barons had to serve on the Royal Council, pay rent, and provide the King with knights for military services. The Barons kept as much land as they wish for their own use, then divided the rest among the Knights. The Barons were also very rich.

Knights/ Vassels-

The Knights were provided land by the Barons and in return, they provided military service to the King in the time of need. They protect the Baron and his family. They also used to set their own tax and rent for Peasants. Their main job was to protect the king therefore they were paid well. Knights also kept as much land for their personal uses and then distributed t the rest to the Peasants. Although they are not as rich as the Barons, Knights were quite healthy.

Peasants/ Villiens/ Serfs-

The Peasants were given land by the Serfs. They had to provide the king with free labour. Food and service when demanded. Peasants had no rights. Villeins are poor. They not aloud to leave the Manor and had to ask their lords permission before they could marry. They are the poorest Feudal System Social Hierarchy.
